U.S. House Resolution 418 on Rohingya people of Burma (Myanmar)

Yesterday, members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee approved House Resolution 418 (H. Res. 418): "Urging the Government of Burma to end the persecution of the Rohingya people".

As rightly noted by Mr. Tom Andrews of the United to End Genocide, we now have one last hurdle to clear: the Resolution will be considered by the entire House of Representatives in a matter of days. (See below for his message.)

It is critical for every member of the House to hear from their constituents now. Please, call your Representative and ask them to vote YES on H.Res. 418. It is life or death for the Rohingya people.

===================
Habib,

Deteriorating conditions have put Burma on a downward trajectory that could end in the world's next genocide without immediate action.

Hundreds have been killed with a death toll mounting daily, tens of thousands have fled under the most hazardous conditions, and 140,000 have been forced into horrible, overcrowded camps where they face severe restrictions and are denied basic necessities including lifesaving medical care.

The government of Burma has failed to protect the Rohingya ethnic minority and other minority groups and is seeking to establish even more repressive laws.

Few are willing or able to stand up for the Rohingya and against these deadly government policies. But yesterday, members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved House Resolution 418 (H. Res. 418): "Urging the Government of Burma to end the persecution of the Rohingya people".

We now have one last hurdle to clear: the Resolution will be considered by the entire House of Representatives in a matter of days.

It is critical for every member of the House to hear from their constituents now. Please, call your Representative xxxxx and ask them to vote YES on H.Res. 418!

Calling your Representative is easy. Here's all you need to say:

My name is __________________________ and I'm calling from _______City, _______State to express my support for House Resolution 418, which urges the government of Burma to "end the persecution of the Rohingya people and respect internationally recognized human rights for all ethnic and religious minority groups within Burma."

Please let the Representative know this issue is important to me. Thank you.

There is no better way for your voice to be heard than a 2 minute phone call. And your follow-up message is just as critical.

Sincerely,

President, United to End Genocide
